LATEST POST: How to Speak clearlY

David Spearman

Policy & Data Analyst

I am an Advocate because I have spent my entire life in churches with ambiguous, vague policies on how fully they welcome or affirm LGBTQ people. As a former worship leader, I've found myself unsure if the congregations that I stood in front of would stand with me if they knew who I loved. I have seen firsthand that a lack of clarity leads to alienation, shame, secrecy, and pain - the exact opposite of Jesus's message. LGBTQ people deserve to know the extent of their welcome before they walk in the door, not after they've invested their time, money, and spiritual energy in a community.
