Meet a church clarity volunteer: jess kotnour

Elise Tiralli

Social Worker/Community Organizer

One of the many reasons I am an advocate is being I believe in honest, borderline irrational transparency. The Church has a responsibility to lay itself out - policy, prejudice, everything - to allow the body of Christ to truly know where they're free to flourish in their God-given identities. I have worked with many queer and T/GNC youth who are yearning for a safer space to worship and build a relationship with God, but are fearful about the ambiguous platform their local churches advertise. There's something inherently evil about the Church suggesting it's affirming and then subjecting a queer or T/GNC person to being triggered, misgendered, or stunted in their growth while trying to enter into a place of holy healing. We need clarity.
