Meet a church clarity volunteer: jess kotnour

Marcy Bain

Rev
Presbyterian Church USA

As a queer Rev serving churches in a variety of contexts, at times it has been difficult for me to discern where particular churches stand on lgbt leaders and to anticipate hidden boundaries/concerns/restrictions on my leadership as a queer clergywoman. Many churches sincerely want to serve all people, but they have not had a comprehensive conversation about transparency (or lack of transparency) and its impact on its lgbt members. From my own experience, I've cultivated empathy for churches that need equipped and educated about the importance of clarity and for lgbt members that need their churches to be safe and fully transparent.
