I grew up in the evangelical tradition. When I came out to the church, I quickly realized that what people meant by "inclusion" was not always what I assumed they meant. I am passionate about educating faith communities about queer identities and what true "inclusion" means. On the wall of The Canterbury House at Rutgers University is one of our mottos: "Worship where you are celebrated, not just tolerated!" We mean that. The most important thing I think we can do as the church is to create safe spaces for people to share their stories and for others to listen.
