Congregational Information Form (2015): Page 7: "Our congregation is officially affirming of same-sex marriage."
Note from church:
Erb Street Mennonite Church's (ESMC) practice for many years now has been to provide full welcome to LGBTQ+ people and to address specific questions such as Blessing or Officiating Weddings as they arise in specific circumstances and in the light of changing denominational practices and instructions. As such, we have blessed two LGBTQ+ marriages that had been previously solemnized civilly. Both couples remain active in the life of ESMC. Since that time, Mennonite Church Canada has agreed that individual congregations and Area Church's may discern that they will officiate LGBTQ+ weddings in their church with their clergy without discipline. We have not had a request for a same sex wedding since that denominational decision (Saskatoon 2016), but our church council and current pastors are committed to discerning such a question, should that request arise, in light of our commitment to full welcome and with any input as it may come from our local Area Church (Mennonite Church Eastern Canada or MCEC). To the best of our knowledge, no MCEC church has yet officiated a same sex marriage with their own clergy in their own church. Some same sex marriages have included two out of the three (e.g. same sex marriage, with MCEC clergy, in an off site location).
Erb Street Mennonite Church's actively enforced policy is not clearly communicated, but is hinted at, on its website and in peripheral documents such as this congregational information form from 2015.
