We read that God is not the author of confusion, so why should the church be? As a gay Christian from a conservative background, I know what it’s like to be a victim of unclear policies. After I came out, I quickly realized that “You are welcome here,” actually meant, “You are welcome here, but only if you become like us.” Sadly this is the case for many LGBTQ+ Christians. Doctrine aside, no one should have to worry about the extent of their welcome. No one should be forced to feel like an outsider in their own home.

That’s why I believe in Church Clarity’s mission of bringing transparency, on earth, as it is in heaven. Of all places, church should be the safest; but for many it’s not. Getting rid of ambiguous policies is a necessary step in ensuring church becomes a sanctuary for all people, not just a select few.
